Why is this my life purpose?

This is best answered through a story, so let me tell it to you….it is the story about a fearless voice that was buried deep inside of me, that found her way out through music. As I mentioned in a recent post, she’s the reason I’m a storyteller and the reason I sing. She is my muse. My new album, T(w)o Home Seas, is dedicated to her. When I was very young, she was erased from my conscious mind, due to a deep trauma. This kind of amnesia (or loss of memory called disassociation) is a symptom of complex post-traumatic stress disorder. Yet decades later, my intuitive process of writing songs was so powerful that it was able to reconnect me to her existence. Many of the songs I’ve written were mysteriously penned through this buried part of my psyche.  And as I learned to listen to her stories more and more deeply, her voice got clearer, and louder and stronger, and I got better. I even started to experience joy again. So, as matter of fate, it was shown to me that creative storytelling is medicine; it is a healing tool. Besides bravely telling my own story, I feel it is my life purpose to assist people to sing, or tell their own stories, so they can own them!
